As a collector of comics, it is important to learn how to perserve them (also called the "conservation of comics").
Comic books are a printed medium that should be stored in cool, dark places. Sunlight can bleach the paper and cause the pages to yellow. Moisture (dampness) can damage the paper the comic books are printed on. Some cardboard contains acid which some collectors advise against using to store comics (as in cardboard backing boards). This acid will eventually react with the fibers of the paper of comics causing damage over a very long time. However, acid-free cardboard backings do not have this problem and are recommended to keep the comic from bending while in storage or during handling.
Comics should also be stored in a special storage bag (polyethylene or polypropylene). When purchasing the bags, try to find some that are archival safe to ensure the plastic composition will not have elements that may harm the comic book. These plastic sleves will allow the comic to be visible while in storage.
